QUEEN OF IDLEWOOD

 RETIRING MY INNER ACTION (S)HERO

 Proud citizen of Idlewood

Last week I spent an extended weekend with my dear family members in Portugal. And if there is one thing that I’ve forgot for a while is the joy it gave me to just be together without a plan.

Like literally doing nothing other than the bare minimum, plus eating of course. In Portugal you eat and boy, do I love to eat, both sweet and savory. From starter to dessert, I had all the best kept secrets that the Portuguese cuisine has to offer.

Funny how spending time with my family coincided with America’s national holiday Thanksgiving and made me contemplate the meaning of what is originally celebrated on this annual holiday. Spending time with family, being grateful, counting my blessings, looking back at this years’ harvest – which to me are all about inner riches or immaterialistic successes.

So instead of complaining how I wasn’t productive enough or ate too much and hadn’t been at the gym for a week, which is true of course ;-) – I’d rather savour my precious time spent with family, count those blessings, and keep reminding my future self of the following.

My inner action (s)hero is retired. I’m not going to praise her anymore for ‘getting things done’. These words are out of fashion for me as of 2025, correction, now! I’m a hardwired go-getter but I’d rather become the queen of Idlewood, and be all rebel and revolutionairy in the field of slacking and slothing,

Not to avoid any necessary action or accountability, but learn to master the art of dolce far niente, which the Italians invented, and only get in gear when I wish, feel or need to.
